Qatar nude statues: Greece pulls nude statues in fear of scandalization

Qatar nude statues: Greece pulls nude statues in fear of scandalization, Two Greek statues that were to be displayed in Qatar for an exhibition dedicated to the Olympic Games were returned to the Athens Archaeological Museum because Qatari authorities tried to cover the nude statues with black cloth. On April 25, the Huffington Post said that event organizers believed the nude statues would scandalize female visitors.

The Qatar nude statues depicted two famous young athletes of Eleusis, which the Greek culture ministry had given for the exhibition "Olympic Games: Past and Present", which opened on March 28 in Doha.

A few days before the inauguration, Deputy Culture Minister Costas Tsavara traveled to Doha and found that the genitalia of the two statues were covered with black cloth.

The authorities argued that exposing nude figures would have been an insult to the customs of the country and a bad example for Qatari women who would visit the exhibition.

The deputy minister made it clear to the organizers that the statues should be displayed in their natural state or be returned to Athens. His request was not granted and the Qatar nude statues were returned to Athens.
