After amassing a $40-million fortune during his career as a property developer, Blum died last year, aged 97, leaving behind no will and no heir to the largest unclaimed estate in the history of New York state.

Described as a handsome and charismatic ladies' man, Blum may have lost a wife and child during the Holocaust. An accountant friend had tried to help him to sort out his affairs, but Blum died before they could make arrangements. If efforts to find an heir fail, the money will go to the state.
