Ann Curry NBC News Boston bombings, Ann Curry joined NBC News’ coverage of Monday’s horrific bombings in Boston with a report during the network’s primetime one-hour special anchored by Brian Williams.

Curry, who has had a diminished presence on the network since leaving the “Today” show in 2012, interviewed Boston University employee Dan Mercurio, who finished the race moments before the blasts went off. They spoke through video chat.

“I can’t help but feel that you seem to be in a state of shock,” Curry said.

“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. We were 30-40 yards away from a bomb that went of in Boston,” he said, fighting back tears.

Since leaving “Today,” Curry has been working with her own production team at NBC News as a national and international correspondent.

She reported live from Aurora, Colorado after the devastating mass shooting at a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” She also reported on Hurricane Sandy and the tragic mass shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
